Purple Rain Single Released

Paul Kitchen | Purple Rain

I put this out for the first time the day after Prince passed, two years ago. After his estate had it removed from a couple streaming outlets, I took it down. Today I put it back up – let’s see if it sticks this time… Recorded a little short of 34 years ago in late 1984, on half-inch 8 track tape. I’d love to take that Oberheim DX drum machine out, but its in there. I guess it’s a vintage sound now. Only five minute guitar solo I’ve ever put on tape…Started to remix it recently, but decided to leave it alone.

Teach My Heart (Single)

Shared this track a couple of nights ago, and woke up the next morning to these very kind comments from the great David Crosby. Made my day!  I wasn’t planning on it, but after the private Soundcloud link started getting played a lot due to his tweet, I decided to release it as a single. Blue Tattoo is out March 31st on Yin and Wack Records, and available for pre-order on my website now (iTunes and Amazon next few days).

Like it …well made track ….nice song

See you the Next Blue Moon,

It Ain’t No Use: For Gregg Allman

This past January, I released the And We Dream remaster. I decided not to license and include the three covers originally recorded for that album. One of those covers was It Ain’t No Use, which I had heard on Gregg Allman’s ‘Playing Up A Storm’ album released in 1977. The song was written by Bernie Baum, Bill Giant, and Florence Kaye. I wanted to remix the track, to include the drums keys and strings the original mix had, but was unable to (which I explained here when I released the remaster). But I was able to do a remix using just the analog 8 tracks that I transferred a few years back. So here you have a very stripped down version. I hope you enjoy it.

I loved Gregg Allman’s music from the moment I first heard the Allman Brothers Band.  Some of the first songs we ever jammed on in high school were Allman Brothers songs. This was originally recorded as a tribute to him on Feb. 12, 1992. Thought this a good time to share it, as he passed away last weekend.
