I Talk to Jesus Video

For the 35th date on my ‘No Rhyme or Reason Tour’. I recorded and filmed this performance of ‘I Talk to Jesus’ on 1-9-2025. I wrote the song in 1988 and released it on the ‘Lost in Babylon’ album in 1989.

For this track, I pulled up the original 8 track recording and stripped it down, keeping only the keyboard bass riff, a couple guitar snippets, and a keyboard in the middle solo section.  I added a live guitar and vocal, bass, keys, bvox, drums and loops. I ran the original keyboard bass riff thru a DS Audio Tantra plugin, as well as one of the drum loops, and had a new groove for the song.

As I have done on previous Live From the inSync Asylum videos, I recorded the track without headphones or monitoring the guitar, which was later run thru and Neural DSP Morgan Amp plugin.

As for the song, I’ve never thought of it as a religious song, but more one of desperation. When I did the Lost in Babylon album, I was reading the bible, with some of the tracks veering toward the apocalyptic (like the leadoff track ‘Take a Nail’). I still think it’s one of my better albums, though it’s starting to sound exactly like it was recorded over 35 years ago.  Check out if you haven’t already.

Paul Kitchen | End of the Line | Live From the inSync Asylum Video

Paul Kitchen | End of the Line Live From the inSync Asylum. For the 21st date on my ‘No Rhyme or Reason Tour’, I chose to do another song from the ‘Lost in Babylon’ album. Written in 1989. Once again I recorded the song without monitoring the guitar or vocals, with no headphones. Interesting to do it that way, but i have to listen carefully. Interesting side note: I bought this IYV guitar a couple weeks ago from the Amazon warehouse for $125 I think. Someone had returned it, supposedly scratched up. I tuned it up and started playing it – nothing else. So far so good.

Paul Kitchen | Spin | Live From the inSync Asylum Video

Paul Kitchen | Spin Live From the inSync Asylum. For the 20th date on my ‘No Rhyme or Reason Tour’, I chose to do this song from the ‘Lost in Babylon‘ album. My PC struggles with recording two webcams and a Cubase session all at the same time. So, to conserve resources I didn’t monitor the guitar, just hearing my voice and the IYV Guitar in the room – monitors, no headphones. Interesting to hear it later when run thru my processing. This has always been a special song to me. So cool to be playing it for the first time in over 30 years. Hope you like it. https://bit.ly/3p6UD3y

Paul Kitchen | Far Away Live From the inSync Asylum

Paul Kitchen | Far Away Live From the inSync Asylum 4-15-2020.

Show me I’m wasting time. Lock the door on my anxious mind. Tell me I’m way out of line. Again. Tell me there’s nothing wrong. Tell me why it takes so long. For love to right all the wrong. Cause I’m far away. I’m far away this time. I’m so far away.

(Technical Note: After watching Neil Young’s Mountaintop video recently, and reading some stuff with Daniel Lanois about recording vocals without headphones, I decided to give it a shot. It worked. And just in time, since a bout with tinnitus has started to make headphones seem like an enemy lately.)
