Paul Kitchen | Waiting to Fly Live From the inSync Asylum. For the 19th date on my ‘No Rhyme or Reason Tour’, I chose to do this song from the ‘And We Dream’ album. In all honesty I had a hell of a time getting to something I could share, and after many takes this is what I came up with. My hair did not survive, as I apparently tried to pull it out.. I started with the 8 track tape recording, detected the tempo, and ended up keeping only one guitar track – my melody maker recorded in ‘1992 or so. I added keyboard bass and keys, as well as banging out the beat on my desk – my new Cajon! Also due to my issue with headphones, tinitus, vertigo and the rest, I had to just play along with the speakers. So as Elvis said, “let it bleed”. All in all, this is one of my favorite songs that I’ve written, and hopefully you will enjoy it.
Paul Kitchen | Sign of the Times Live From the inSync Asylum. The 18th date on my ‘No Rhyme or Reason Tour’, and the first one since July 2020. This time around with a Northern flair from inSync Asylum Studio B. I wrote Sign of the Times in 1991, and it originally appeared on ‘And We Dream’. The past few years made the song feel fresh again and very pertinent. I also like playing it on an acoustic. So here you go. https://bit.ly/3EAYcFA
My new album Trip Note: 1978-2018 Vol. 4 is out today. Volume 4 Starts where Volume 3 left off, focusing on the albums ‘And We Dream‘, ‘A Matter of Time‘, ‘Living with Fiction‘ and ‘Blue Tattoo‘. Trip Note ended up taking me 7 years to curate, and 40 years to record. The four-album set features 66 tracks and over 5 hours of unreleased music. I think there is some good stuff in there, and hope you check it out. https://bit.ly/3xBMG92
Paul Kitchen | Sign of the Times (Acoustic) was recorded in 2007 and first appeared on the album ‘And We Dream’ in 1993. I could have written it yesterday – clearly about finding the truth somewhere ‘in between the lines’. At the time I had the intent to record my first all acoustic album, and for the first time ever had learned to play a handful of my songs. Several of those recordings are showing up for the first time now. Taken from the upcoming album Trip Note 1978-2018 Vol. 4. #NewSong#OldSong#NewMusic#NewMusicFriday#paulkitchen#acoustic#soloacoustic#taylorguitars#tripnote#signofthetimes#inbetweenthelineshttp://bit.ly/2VHi9W5
New Single out today. Put Your Love in My Hands was written and recorded in 1993 and originally released on the ‘And We Dream’ album. When I first gave that album out to my friends way back when, this was the version on the album. When I remastered the album and put it out to the streaming sites years later, I put another version of the song on there. Like many of the tracks on And We Dream, I cannot remix those songs. At the time I was using my Tascam 38 8 Track connected to a sequencer via SMTPE time code. I have the audio from back then, but not the sequencer tracks – where they went I don’t know. Taken from the upcoming album Trip Note 1978-2018 Vol. 3. I hope you like it. #NewSingle #NewMusic #NewMusicFriday #paulkitchen #tripnote #putyourloveinmyhands https://bit.ly/3eZ6rzX
Three Live Performances. Episode 18 of Live from the InSync Asylum!
Welcome to Episode 18 of my podcast. Let me take you on a tour of over 40 years of words and music, Live from the InSync Asylum. Featuring rare and unreleased music as well as live performances. This episode features tracks written by Tony Joe White and Jackie DeShannon, as well as live performances of ‘The Present’, ‘When You Tell Me You Love Me’ and ‘Civilized Man’.
The Present | Live From the inSync Asylum 6-2-2020. I wrote this song in the fall of 1981. I was 23 years old. It was originally recorded in ’81 on a collection of songs called ‘Metallic Scorn’ . The backing track for this live version is from around August 1986, and from what I can tell never finished. I added drums and strat the other day, but kept the synth bass and jangly electric parts from ’86. I was 28 years old at the time.
When You Tell Me You Love Me | Live From the inSync Asylum 6-13-2020. The 14th date on my ‘No Rhyme or Reason Tour’. This was the lead off track to my most recent album of original music, 2018’s ‘Blue Tattoo‘. It was a pretty dark album, as it was recorded as I turned 60. You can read more about it here. The backing track for this was from the stripped mix released in 2019, and stripped even further. I added new percussion loops at the end, plus the live vocal and acoustic.
Civilized Man | Live From the inSync Asylum 6-2-2020. I wrote this song summer of 1987. I was 29 years old. It was originally recorded in ’87 on a collection of songs called ‘No Poetry Allowed’ (unreleased, but remains one of my favorties) . The backing track for this live version is from that time frame, and recorded on a Tascam 38 on half inch tape. Very little remains in this live version – a little bit of one keyboard track. Other than that, I added drums; guitars, bass, b vox and a little keys the past couple days.
Also included are tracks from my recent album Magic Moon, Wheelhouse and And We Dream, as well as the stories behind them. Music not available anywhere else!
